"Kalasag" means "Shield" in Tagalog. Inspired by the shields of the warriors in the Philippines and also these shields are often used in the logos of FMA schools. This represents the defense in FMA, yet can be use as an offense. Shields were used to block and guard the warrior, but also used to strike especially when they were in close range.
